Arizona State is still pushing for a ten-win season. It’s been good, but after last year, this has been a bit of a downer, even with all of the success.

Win this, get by Arizona in the rivalry game, and there’s little to complain about considering the loss of starting quarterback Sam Leavitt.

Meanwhile, Colorado can’t win.

It came up with a great performance againstI Iowa State, but that’s been it for Big 12 play, getting destroyed by Utah and Arizona before losing a good fight at West Virginia.

It’s the final home game of the year with a date at Kansas State to close things out.

Why Arizona State Will Win

It’s been a crazy ride for Jeff Sims.

He looked like a future superstar at Georgia Tech over his first two seasons. Left for Nebraska, couldn’t stop turning it over, was a key part of the loss to Colorado that helped launch the Deion Sanders era, and now, thrown into the fire at Arizona State, he’s been solid.

He threw for over 200 yards with three scores in the win over West Virginia last week, ran for 228 yards against Iowa State, and he should be able to run wild on a miserable Colorado run defense that’s giving up five yards per carry. But …

Why Colorado Will Win

The Buffaloes appear to have their quarterback.

Freshman Julian Lewis struggled against Arizona, but he was terrific against West Virginia, throwing for close to 300 yards and two scores. He doesn’t have to light up a struggling Arizona State pass defense, but he has to be able to keep pressing.

On the other side, Colorado doesn’t have much of a pass rush, but it should be able to get into the backfield against a struggling Sun Devil line. The ASU running game isn’t bad, but the offense allows too many sacks and tackles for loss.

Can Colorado hold up against the run and force a slew of turnovers?

The Sun Devils had a turnover problem against Iowa State, but they won. They have to control the clock, and that will come from dominating on the defensive front.

The Colorado O line won’t hold up against the Arizona State pass rush.
