A celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States Army is the focus of this year’s specialty uniform for Army‘s part in its annual clash with Navy next month.
Army and Navy will meet on Saturday, Dec. 13, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, home of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. The Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy is at stake and will be awarded to the winner. Game time is 3 p.m., and will be televised by CBS Sports (WCBS-2 in New York).
Army is currently 5-4 with remaining American Conference games with Tulsa (Nov. 22) and Texas San Antonio (Nov. 29). Navy is 7-2 headed into conference finales with South Florida (Nov. 15) and Memphis (Nov. 27). The Army-Navy Game is slated as a non-conference game, as part of the agreement to add Army to the league and still preserve the distinct end-of-season rivalry scheduling.
The Army “road” uniform is a marble primary color on both the jersey and pants, symbolizing the enduring foundation of strength that the American people have provided for the Army. The helmet will have purple streaking through the unique jersey numbers and along the helmet – the color symbolizes the sacrifice made by soldiers and Gold Star families, tracing its lineage to the Badge of Military Merit, precursor to the Purple Heart, first authorized by Gen. George Washington during the American Revolution.
This will be the tenth Army-Navy Game that will feature specialized uniforms designed by NIKE in collaboration with the U.S. Military Academy’s Department of History and Ward Studies.
