LSU could not have asked for a much better start to the Lane Kiffin era. After a two-hour weather delay, the Tigers overwhelmed Clemson 51-10 in front of a rowdy crowd at Tiger Stadium, dominating on both sides of the football. Quarterback Sam Leavitt had 343 total yards and 3 touchdowns, while RB Dillin Jones rushed for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns. The defense was just as impressive, holding Clemson just 10 points and producing a pick-six from Jordan Ross. The win also moved LSU into the No. 8 spot in the latest AP Top 25.
Now, LSU turns the page with Louisiana Tech coming to Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. The Bulldogs won’t carry the same national weight as Clemson, but this matchup will give LSU an opportunity to build on its impressive opener while cleaning up some of the mistakes that showed up, particularly in the passing game. With the Tigers coming off a statement victory and facing an in-state opponent, the biggest challenge may be maintaining the same intensity and focus. Still, after what LSU showed against Clemson, another huge win is predicted for the Tigers.
