Auburn AD John Cohen has spoken to '7 or 8 sitting head coaches' since the search began

Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen has worked tirelessly to find the right candidate to take over as the football program’s next head coach following the firing of head coach Hugh Freeze on Nov. 2.
In just over a week since Freeze’s firing, Cohen tells Jason Caldwell of Auburn Undercover that he has spoken with several Auburn players about the qualities they would like to see in their next head coach, and he plans to speak to more as Auburn’s bye week continues. Cohen is also consulting with NFL scouts and media members who cover the sport every day to get a better grasp of who the best candidates are.
Cohen also tells Caldwell that he has spoken with several quality candidates, and has a timeline for when he wants to have the next Auburn head football coach named.
“We have probably had conversations with 7 or 8 sitting head coaches. We’ll get that number down,” Cohen said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. “I would love to have a head coach within 24 hours after the Iron Bowl is over. Is that possible? I don’t know. The reason I don’t know that is because I don’t know how our candidates’ seasons are going to progress over the next three weeks.”
As expected, a full list of candidates Cohen has spoken with has not been revealed, nor has a frontrunner been named. Several names have been linked to the vacant job, however.
