The Auburn Tigers not only added another member to their already impressive 2027 recruiting haul, but they beat out their biggest rival to do so.

Cedrick Simmons, a three-star wide receiver from Selma, Alabama, announced his pledge to the Auburn Tigers on Tuesday, choosing the Tigers over in-state foe Alabama. Simmons joined Prattville wide receiver Deshawn Hall by committing to Auburn on Tuesday.

Simmons’ decision, at least to the public, was hard to gauge heading into Tuesday’s announcement. Neither Auburn nor Alabama had predictions favoring them from 247Sports, and Rivals gave Auburn just a 51% chance to be the suitor on Sunday. However, Steve Wiltfong of Rivals submitted a prediction on Monday that favored Auburn and pushed them to 93.5%.

Simmons, who attended the same high school as fellow Auburn wide receivers Duke and Erick Smith, was Southside Selma’s top receiver last season by reeling in 106 passes for 2,192 yards and 20 scores as part of one of the state’s top scoring offenses.

Ahead of Auburn’s successful day of recruiting, the Tigers ranked No. 9 in 247Sports’ 2027 recruiting rankings with 22 commitments, with 12 of those announcing their commitments during the month of June. The number has now increased to 14 June commitments.
