A matchup that Auburn fans have dreamed of is finally becoming a reality, as Auburn football has scheduled a home-and-home series with Notre Dame.

According to multiple reports, including one by Pete Thamel of ESPN, Auburn will face Notre Dame in a home-and-home series beginning in 2027. The game at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, will be played on Sept. 25. 2027, and the game at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama, will take place on Oct. 28, 2028. Auburn athletics confirmed the report on Wednesday afternoon.

The series will mark the first time that Auburn and Notre Dame have played on the gridiron. The Fighting Irish have a long-standing tradition of playing college football's most traditional powers, including several in the SEC. According to Winsipedia, Notre Dame has played 13 of the SEC's 16 teams, having yet to play Auburn, Kentucky, or Mississippi State in its storied history. For Auburn, the 2027 game will mark the first time the team has played a game in the state of Indiana. The Tigers are 1-0 against both Indiana and Purdue, playing both teams in bowl games.

Auburn replaces UCLA with Notre Dame as a home-and-home opponent for the 2027 and 2028 seasons after the series with the Bruins was canceled in 2024. The game also wraps up nonconference scheduling for the 2027 season, as the Tigers are also slated to face Middle Tennessee and Missouri State.
