AUBURN — Gunner Rivers, son former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers, is making his second unofficial visit to Auburn football this year for the game against Kentucky at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Gunner, a four-star recruit in the class of 2027, visited Auburn on April 1 of this year — three months after Auburn extended an offer to the junior St. Michael Catholic quarterback on Jan. 8.

Since his retirement from the NFL, Phillip has been St. Michael Catholic’s coach since Gunner’s freshman year in 2021.

Five Power 4 schools have made offers to Gunner with Auburn and South Carolina being the only SEC teams to this point with offers on the table. The visit to Auburn on Saturday, Nov. 1 is the fourth time Gunner has made the trip out to a university with the previous being a camp at the University of Texas in June.

It’s still early in the Gunner’s recruitment, but Auburn is the only school the junior QB has made a trip out twice to visit.

In his junior season, Gunner has led St. Michael Catholic (Fairhope, Ala.) to a 10-0 regular season for the first time in school history, including a Region 1-4A title over the likes of Jackson, which has highly touted recruits of its own like Alabama commit Ezavier Crowell and South Carolina commit Landon Duckworth.

St. Michael Catholic has scored 40 points in nine games, tapping into 50 points in three of its 10 games. Through 10 games, Gunner has tossed 2,506 yards with 40 touchdowns and only four interceptions on 255 passing attempts. In eight games on the season, Gunner has thrown over 200 yards and in every game has thrown two or more touchdown passes.

Auburn has had its fair share of issues at the quarterback position in 2025. In four of its five SEC contests, Auburn has failed to post more than 20 points. The Tigers are last in the SEC in passing yards and touchdowns in 2025.

Jackson Arnold has served as the starter in all eight games for Auburn before getting benched in Week 9 before halftime against Arkansas in favor of Stanford transfer Ashton Daniels.

Auburn has three scholarship quarterbacks on its current roster — Daniels has one year of eligibility left, while Arnold has two. True freshman Duece Knight is a former five-star recruit that saw limited acton in Week 2 against Ball State.
