Auburn football hiring tenured SEC assistant to coaching staff | Reports

AUBURN — Coleman Hutzler, who was fired as Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator last week, will join Alex Golesh‘s Auburn football staff as an edge rushers coach, according to a multiple reports on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Hutzler, 41, had spent the past two seasons coordinating the Bulldogs’ defense, which ranked 98th and 76th nationally the past two seasons in ESPN’s SP+. His history as a college assistant spans nearly two decades, and it comes with some notable stops.

Prior to Starkville, Hutzler was Nick Saban’s special teams coordinator at Alabama. His previous stops, in order, include Ole Miss, Texas, South Carolina, Boston College and Florida. He presumably has a healthy history with Auburn defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, as the pair were on staffs at Florida, Ole Miss and Stanford.

Who else is joining Alex Golesh’s Auburn football coaching staff?

Golesh indicated Monday that Auburn’s entire coaching staff may not be entirely in place until the College Football Playoff’s conclusion, but a few hires have already been formalized or announced. Several others, like Hutzler, have been reported, including the retention of Auburn defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams.
