AUBURN — Kodi Burns will wear a multitude of hats in his first season back with Auburn football since working for Gus Malzahn‘s final coaching staff.
The program made Burns’ hire official Friday, Dec. 12, long after head coach Alex Golesh disclosed that Burns would be his associate head coach at his Dec. 1 introduction. The quarterback-turned-receiver will be much more than that for Golesh.
Burns also received the title of co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, which was identical to his role on Golesh’s South Florida staff in 2025.
“I’ve been fortunate to work with Kodi three times in my career, and there was no question that I would bring him back to his alma mater,” Golesh said in a release. “KB is one of the top offensive coaches and recruiters in the country and is a true man of integrity. I know he will help us lead our team to where it needs to go and be a tremendous resource to me as associate head coach.”

Burns was a graduate assistant at Auburn in 2013, and he returned to the Plains three seasons later as Malzahn’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. In 2019, his coordinator role changed, putting him in charge of the passing game, but he continued to coach Auburn’s wide receivers until Malzahn’s firing in 2020.
