AUBURN — For the first time in three years, Auburn football is nearing an early signing period without Hugh Freeze at the helm.
On the field, that wouldn’t be such an issue. That was a place where Freeze consistently underperformed, but it’s hard to say the same for his efforts on the recruiting trail.
While Auburn‘s latest class didn’t maintain down the stretch, Freeze signed back-to-back top-10 classes on the Plains. He brought in the likes of Cam Coleman and Deuce Knight. Now the Tigers are left to piece it together amid a coaching transition.
Ahead of the early signing period, which opens Wednesday, Dec. 3, where’s a look at Auburn’s class and its biggest needs for the window.
Auburn football’s biggest recruiting needs at early signing day
It’s rather simple for Auburn, which finds itself scuffling for position in the SEC: Lock down the top talent. With the changes to revenue sharing in the past year, most rosters will continue being built through the transfer portal. Considering its midseason coaching change, Auburn’s still in decent position to add premier talent assuming it can hold onto its commitments.
Seven of Auburn’s 13 commits are blue-chips, meaning they’re rated as a four-star prospect or better by a major recruiting website. It’s likely the program tries to flip some commits from else where, but with players like five-star safety Bralan Womack and four-star wide receiver Jase Mathews still committed to the Tigers, keeping them with Auburn will be optimal.
