Auburn football report card: How did Tigers grade out against Kentucky?

AUBURN — This is certainly the worst loss Auburn football will have to wear this season.

The Tigers suffered their fifth defeated, falling 10-3 to Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 1. They entered as a double-digit favorite and had history on their side. It proved meaningless. This could be the dagger in Hugh Freeze's time on the Plains, but what's certain is that, barring an egg-laying to FCS Mercer, this goes down as Auburn's ugliest defeat of the fall.

Here's the Montgomery Advertiser's report card from Kentucky's upset of Auburn.

Grading Auburn football offense vs. Kentucky: F

Neither Ashton Daniels nor Jackson Arnold could save Freeze and Auburn's offense. It piddled around against one of the SEC's worst defenses, which came into the night allowing 34.4 points per game against conference opponents.

Grading Auburn football defense vs. Kentucky: C-

The Kentucky turnovers were a positive, but Auburn couldn't keep Kentucky off the field. It wasn't Georgia, or Texas A&M, or even Missouri. It was the fourth-worst offense in the conference.

Grading Auburn football special teams vs. Kentucky: C-

Alex McPherson delivered, as did Hudson Kaak on occasion. Some of it was out of Auburn's control, but the return team didn't do the Tigers any favors, as every drive following a punt began inside the 20-yard line.

Grading Auburn football coaching vs. Kentucky: F

The offense looked awfully familiar, but the defense's inability to take its usual sort of control was disappointing.

Auburn football's final grade vs. Kentucky: D-

Defense and special teams had its moments. That saved a complete failure, but goodness, it couldn't come closer to failure than that.
