AUBURN — Alex Golesh‘s first eight months as Auburn football‘s head coach will be imperative to the success of his first season at the helm, but his first month hasn’t done him many favors.
Before the former South Florida head coach even gets his first opportunity to lead the Tigers into a game on the Plains, he’s being tasked with wading through one of the more talented rosters in the sport and carving out his group of guys for the 2026 campaign.
The returns to this point have been, understandably, disheartening. The Tigers were slated to have nearly 30 players in the transfer portal when it opened Friday, Jan. 2, and two-thirds of them were former blue-chip signees, helping comprise the 13th-most-talented roster in the nation last season.
While the likes of Cam Coleman and Deuce Knight will be looking at their options elsewhere, it’ll be up to Golesh and his newly hired staff to do the hard part: build a roster that can compete in the SEC while pushing to retain some of that outgoing talent.
As the offseason continues, stay tuned here for a full rundown of the latest changes on Auburn‘s roster.
Live updates on Auburn football’s roster: Who’s in, out on the Plains?
Missouri edge rusher Nate Johnson visiting Auburn football
Jan. 8 (9:20 a.m.): Johnson, a rising senior, has arrived in Auburn for a visit, the Montgomery Advertiser has learned.
Johnson spent a single season at Missouri, transferring there after two years at Appalachian State. He logged six tackles in nine games last season, but as a Mountaineer, he was highly productive. Johnson left Boone after logging 77 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 25 games.
Ohio State O-Lineman transfer details Auburn football visit
Jan. 8 (9 a.m.): As Auburn attempts to replace its entire starting offensive line from the 2025 season, it received an important visitor in Tegra Tshabola, who made the Plains his first stop following his entering the transfer portal.
Tshabola has one year of eligibility remaining after spending the past four seasons with Ohio State, including the last two at the Buckeyes‘ starting right guard. His visit to Auburn concluded Wednesday evening, and he walked away surprised by Golesh’s staff, including offensive line coach Tyler Hudanick.
“He had a plan prepared for me to help me improve,” Tshabola said of Hudanick. “A strict plan, a bunch of different ideas of how he was going to help me improve. That’s what kind of sold me with him, is how eager and hungry he was to get on this thing and help me improve and help this team improve.”

NC State WR Noah Rogers arrives for Auburn football visit
Jan. 7 (10:45 a.m.): Rogers, a consensus top-200 player in the transfer portal, arrived in Auburn for a visit Wednesday morning, the Montgomery Advertiser has learned.
Rogers was high school teammates with newly minted Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown, and he was a consensus blue-chip prospect out of high school, signing with Ohio State. He spent one season with the Buckeyes before transferring to NC State, where he played the past two years.
As a member of the Wolfpack, Rogers caught 68 passes for 919 yards and three touchdowns.
Auburn football makes first offensive line transfer addition
Jan. 7 (10:30 a.m.): Auburn has made a considerable addition with Michigan State offensive tackle Stanton Ramil, a source confirmed to the Montgomery Advertiser, becoming the first offensive line addition in a transfer class that’s up to 12 additions.
An Alabaster, Alabama, native, Ramil played for Thompson High School and was a consensus four-star prospect. He played in 16 games for the Spartans the past two seasons, making eight starts at left tackle, giving up just five sacks in 403 opportunities.

What’s the latest with transfer portal calendar? Here’s what to know
After having two portal windows last offseason, including a 30-day span for the majority of December, the NCAA consolidated chances for football players to transfer this year, eliminating a spring transfer window and moving the lone period to a two-week span — from Jan. 2 to Jan. 16 — following the College Football Playoff.
Players who wish to enter the portal must do so in that window, but they’re not required to enroll at a new school before the entry deadline.
