Like any new head coach, Alex Golesh had to build a new staff at Auburn when he was hired in December. He was able to bring a lot of his assistants from South Florida, like offensive coordinator Joel Gordon. On the offensive side, he also brought in a familiar face as an assistant in former Auburn wide receiver Kodi Burns. On the defensive side, it was a top priority to bring back defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin. Not only was Durkin a favorite of the Auburn fans, but also the players he coached.

So, how much are the coordinators being paid? Peter Rauterkus of AL.com posted an article on Friday detailing how much each assistant coach is making while on staff at Auburn. At the top of the list is, of course, Durkin. He is set to make $2.7 million over three seasons with an annual escalator of $200,000. Gordon will make $1 million over three seasons with an annual escalator of $100,000. Burns was brought in to be the co-offensive coordinator, but he will also coach wide receivers and be the associate head coach. His salary is worth $700,000 over two seasons. There are also bonuses attached for any postseason success for the Tigers.

Gordon and Burns will attempt to duplicate the success that South Florida had on offense. The Bulls were one of the best in college football in 2025, putting up 488.7 yards per game and 40.5 points per game. Both of those statistics ranked in the top five nationally. Fortunately, the Tigers added some of the talented players on that Bulls offense, including quarterback Byrum Brown.

The Auburn defense brings back a lot of its talented players from 2025 due to the return of Durkin. The Tigers' defense was the key reason they were competitive in every game last season, despite the offense struggling. Durkin is very involved with the linebackers, and that may be the Tigers' best group on defense. The position features Xavier Atkins, Demarcus Riddick, Elijah Melendez, and Bryce Deas.
