Former Auburn running back Kam Martin is one of the bright young minds in college coaching and is reportedly drawing interest from Auburn and Alex Golesh.
Doug Samuels of Football Scoop reports that Auburn and Florida State are in a battle to land Martin as an assistant coach on their respective staffs. Samuels says that an offer is on the table for Martin to reunite with his former head coach, Gus Malzahn, at Florida State, and that there is also serious interest from Golesh, which could bring Martin back to his alma mater.
Martin began his career as a running backs coach at Incarnate Word in 2022 before joining Malzahn's staff at UCF for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Martin led a running back group at Incarnate Word that produced two backs to score over 10 touchdowns, and one, Marcus Cooper, to rush for 1,436 yards. RJ Harvey rushed for 2.993 yards and 38 touchdowns in two seasons under Martin's watch at UCF.
Most recently, Martin served as the running backs coach at Tulsa as a part of Tre Lamb's inaugural staff in 2025. Tulsa rushed for 175.5 yards per game, which is eighth-best in the American Athletic Conference. Martin again produced a 1,000-yard back in Dominic Richardson, who gained 1,065 yards and scored five touchdowns this season.
If Martin were to join Auburn's staff, he would become the second former Tiger to be a part of Golesh's debut staff. Golesh has hired former Auburn quarterback and wide receiver Kodi Burns to serve as associate head coach after spending last season with him as co-offensive coordinator at USF.
