Early expectations are low for Auburn softball ahead of the 2026 season as it prepares to take a step forward under second-year co-head coaches Chris and Kate Malveaux.
The SEC recently released its 2026 preseason poll as voted on by the conference's coaches. Auburn is picked to finish the season at No. 12 in the SEC, ahead of only Ole Miss, Missouri, and Kentucky. Defending national champion Texas takes the top spot with 189 points, followed by Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida, and Arkansas in the top five. Auburn's top rivals, Georgia and Alabama, are projected to finish No. 8 and No. 9, respectively.
Auburn softball won its first 11 games of the 2025 season, beating notable teams such as Clemson, North Carolina, and Oklahoma State in the process. However, the Tigers were swept in their first four SEC series and won just three of their eight conference series' total, ending with a 6-18 record against SEC foes. Auburn softball ended its season on a high note, however, by competing for the Tallahassee Regional championship before falling to host Florida State, 4-0.
Auburn softball will look to get back to the postseason in 2026 without key lineup pieces from last season, including KK McCrary, Nelia Peralta, Icess Tresvik, Anna Wohlers, Rose Roach, Aubrie Lisenby, and Amelia Lech. Notable players such as AnnaLea Adams and Kyle Brockman return to the lineup, while SJ Geurin and Malayna Tamborra will anchor in the infield in the circle.
Auburn softball gets its season underway Thursday in Jacksonville, Florida, against North Florida. The game against North Florida is an appetizer for its weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida, where it will see Clemson, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Penn State, and Pittsburgh during the three-day weekend.
