There will be no quarterback competition hanging over the rest of Mizzou Football’s spring, summer, or fall. Austin Simmons, the recently transferred QB from Ole Miss, has been named the Tigers QB1 by the program.

Simmons, who entered the spring in a competition with rising sophomore and former blue-chip recruit Matt Zollers, transferred to the Tigers in the midst of the Rebels’ recent College Football Playoff run. He initially won the starting job in Oxford under erstwhile Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin in the fall of 2025, but lost the role after an injury paved the way for Trinidad Chambliss. Chambliss became one of college football’s brightest stars, and Simmons was left to play the backup role.

Apart from the social media announcement, Mizzou Football has not released an official statement on Simmons.
