Baltimore Ravens Owner Hints At Who'll Be Next Head Coach

If you were paying close attention to Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti's press conference this Tuesday, you would've noticed that he shared his preference for his next head coach.

The Ravens fired John Harbaugh after 18 successful seasons together. Now that he's out of the building, it'll be up to Bisciotti and general manager Eric DeCosta to find a worthy replacement. While there are plenty of candidates on Baltimore's radar, it sounds like those with head-coaching experience will have the edge.

"Unlike 18 years ago, I am very intrigued by coaches that were the hottest offensive and defensive coordinators from five, six or seven years ago in their cycles and got jobs and went to teams that were non-competitive and didn't have a quarterback, and they grind for three or four years, and they're caught up in the cycle of many of my partners," Bisciotti said. "I could say I'm disqualifying coaches with losing records, but I think you have to remember that they were the hottest coaches in their cycle, and they got tough jobs, and I don't think we have a tough job."

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh certainly fits this description. He was the head coach of the New York Jets from 2021-2024, owning a 20-36 record. Prior to landing that gig, he was considered one of the hottest candidates on the coaching carousel.

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores could also give the Ravens what they're looking for. Despite not having a great quarterback, he went 24-25 during his time in South Beach.

Will Lamar Jackson play a role in the team's search for a new coach?

Bisciotti told reporters Tuesday that Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will be allowed to participate in the final stages of their hiring process.

"[He will have] a lot of say, but no power," Bisciotti said. "I have the power."

If the Ravens are willing to let Jackson have a say in their search for a new coach, it's safe to assume he'll be their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. There were some rumors in December about him being on the trade block.
