Behind Enemy Lines: Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht is struggling

As USC football prepares to play Penn State, we are talking to our partners at Nittany Lions Wire. Lead writer Kevin McGuire notes that while USC has taken an injury hit at wide receiver, Penn State has as well. That injury is harming PSU quarterback Rocco Becht:
"Rocco Becht's sudden decline with his passing coincides directly with the loss of rising star receiver Koby Howard," McGuire told us. "Howard went down with an injury a couple of weeks ago and perhaps not so coincidentally, Becht became less effective. Not that he was lighting things up before that, but Howard was the big play guy to open things up for the rest of Becht's targets. It certainly is not a lack of chemistry as Becht's top targets are now all guys he was throwing to at Iowa State, but the efficiency is not showing. And he seems to succumb in pressure with Penn State down late in the last couple of games. His decision-making seems flawed in the crunch time, and that is worrisome."
You can put the loss of Koby Howard up against the loss of Trent Mosley as a critical missing piece for each team's passing game and offense. Penn State really misses Howard. USC really misses Mosley. Finding other solutions and alternatives becomes paramount for each offense this coming Saturday. However, Jayden Maiava is definitely a better and more talented quarterback than Rocco Becht, and not by a small margin. Let's see if USC can take advantage of its clear-cut edge at quarterback.
