Well folks, we bounced back in Week 2 after a mediocre start to the season, going 2-1 in Best Bets and 4-2 overall. Could have been 5-1 but a pesky half-point hook killed us in the Ohio-Jacksonville State game. On the season, Best Bets sits at 4-5, 10-8 overall. We’re set to have another winning week in Week 3 by picking more road favorites. Let’s get to it.
Best Bets
Kentucky @ Texas A&M (-16.5)
This is a pretty big spread, but I was pretty unimpressed with Kentucky’s offense last week at home against Alabama. Too many turnovers and pretty poor pass protection (alliteration for the win) led to a second-half rout. The Aggies’ defense is better than Alabama’s and this game is in College Station. I think the game script goes about the same as the UK-Bama game last week and Texas A&M wins by at least 17.
Georgia (-25.5) @ Arkansas
We picked against Arkansas last week as big road underdogs and guess what? They got housed by Utah. We are back on the fade Arkansas train again as the worst team in the SEC plays the best. This one is going to be ugly and Georgia might cover the 25.5 points by halftime.
Stanford @ Duke (-9.5)
Duke pulled off the upset at Illinois last week and I think the ACC champions are back to being a weirdly not great team who ends up winning a lot of games. Stanford, on the other hand, is a really bad team who is traveling across the country in this classic, historical ACC matchup. Duke will win easily and move to 3-0.
Worth a look
Florida (-2.5) @ Auburn
This is a really intriguing matchup as both programs are rebuilding after replacing their coaches in the offseason. Sumrall and Golesh were the hottest names on the coaching market last year and it’ll be really fun to see which one has their team in a better place early in there tenures. Despite the game being in Auburn, I ultimately believe Sumrall and the Gators are in a better place right now talent-wise and think they should win by a touchdown.
LSU (-2.5) @ Ole Miss
The hate game of the century of the year. The one downside to Mizzou’s game vs. Troy getting pushed back to 6 p.m. is us season ticket holders will miss getting to watch this one play out live. I think Ole Miss might actually be the better team, however the emotion involved in this Lane Kiffin anti-homecoming might be distracting and detrimental to how they play. This one will be a shootout though LSU will come up with a few more stops and win in Oxford.
Colorado (+2.5) @ Northwestern
I’m very much surprised by this spread as Colorado is undefeated and already has a nice win on the road against Georgia Tech. Now, Tech isn’t good, but they are better than Northwestern so I’m not sure why the Wildcats are giving 2.5 points. I’m picking Colorado straight up in this one so to get a couple bonus points on the spread feels like a steal. The Buffs will further bury the bottom of the Big 10.
