We continued on our upward trajectory with Best Bets in Week 3, going 2-1 while also completely whiffing on the Texas A&M -16.5 points pick. That one was ugly for bettors but not for fans of SEC parody. We stumbled a bit in our other picks and finished 3-3 total on the week, but Best Bets is moving in the right direction, now at .500 at 6-6 while our overall picks are 13-11. Not that P2 conference play is in full swing, we’ll jump right into the action with a host of Big 10 and SEC picks, primarily sticking with large home favorites. Let’s get to it.

Best Bets

Oklahoma @ Georgia (-13.5)

For my money, Georgia looks like the most complete team in the country while Oklahoma…. does not. The Sooners do still have a very stout defense, but their offense is dreadful and I see no reason why it will improve any in Athens. This one won’t be high scoring, and if you really wanted to sprinkle some extra dust on this game, Ill give you a bonus pick of Under 44.5. Despite the low total score, I think Georgia does enough to win by two touchdowns, really throwing Sooner fans into a downward spiral.

South Carolina @ Alabama (-12.5)

South Carolina is coming off an incredibly disappointing home loss to Mississippi State last week and Shane Beamer’s seat is quite toasty. I don’t think heading to Tuscaloosa really qualifies as a “get right” game and Alabama’s offense seems to be finding it’s groove under freshman phenom Keelon Russell. South Carolina has given Alabama problems in recent years, but I think that will serve as a motivating factor for the Tide to come out swinging and should win this one going away.

Northwestern @ Indiana (-20.5)

It’s weird to say that Indiana being favored by three touchdowns at home over Northwestern is a surprisingly small spread, but that’s the case here. Northwestern is getting a lot of credit for blowing out a pretty wretched Colorado team last week and I just don’t see how that result translates to the game in Bloomington on Saturday. This may not be your older brother’s bad Northwestern team, but Indiana is a juggernaut who has shown no signs of slowing down. This one won’t be close.

Worth a look

Missouri @ Mississippi State (-5.5)

Feel free to call this emotional hedging if you like (and you probably wouldn’t be wrong,) but I’m having a hard time seeing the Tigers and their shaky secondary containing Kamario Taylor and the dynamic Bulldog offense to the degree that they keep this one within a touchdown. I expect this game to be high scoring and in a never-before-seen act of generosity, I’ll give you a second bonus pick of Over 58.5. That said, I think the Bulldogs will score at least six more of those points than Mizzou.

Iowa (+5.5) @ Michigan

This might be an early season candidate for most disgusting game of the year. Michigan has a good defense but a pretty janky offense. Iowa is, well, Iowa. They exist to pull you down into the pigsty muck and wrestle for a few hours. Michigan will probably eke this one out, but it’s going to be close and gross and since the Hawkeyes are getting 5.5 points, I’ll go ahead and take them.

Texas A&M @ LSU (-8.5)

Both teams are coming off incredibly disappointing losses, though at least LSU looked competent while losing. They are back at home at night and have a massive revenge factor going for them after the Aggies absolutely blasted the Tigers last season, directly resulting in Brian Kelly’s ouster. I don’t think LSU will beat aTm by as much as the Aggies crushed them last year, but I do think the Tigers will win by 10 points.
