Betting odds released for next Michigan Football head coach

Sherrone Moore was fired just a couple hours ago as the head coach of the Michigan football program, but there are already plenty of rumors swirling around who the next man in charge of the Wolverines will be. From pundits to fans, many are making their predictions as far as who the next head coach will be, but numerous oddsmakers have already come out with betting odds as well.

Bookies.com released its odds on Wednesday night, and the person with the best odds to become the next head coach in Ann Arbor is former Michigan assistant coach and current Washington head coach Jedd Fisch (+450), followed by Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer (+475).

The man with the third-best odds is the interesting one — Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman (+700). He has done wonders with the program on the field and on the recruiting trail. He would be an instant upgrade and would probably be one of the best hires Athletics Director Warde Manuel could possibly make. If he’s available (which there are rumors he could be targeted by NFL teams), I think that’s a call you have to make.

Meanwhile, BetOnline released their odds as well, and their list is headlined by DeBoer (+400), followed by former Michigan defensive coordinator and current Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter (+500), Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady (+600) and Fisch (+700).

One named I’ve also seen floated around a lot online is former LSU head coach Brian Kelly. Simply put — hell no. Ain’t happening in a million years. That guy is more toxic than a gas station burrito at 2 a.m. Manuel would never ever hire a guy like that. Even though he’s a midwest guy and has coached in the state of Michigan before, Kelly being in Ann Arbor would be like an XXL person trying to fit into a medium — it would just be a horrible fit.

I think my early top choices would be DeBoer and Freeman. A school like Michigan should be shooting for the stars when it comes to its football program, so I wouldn’t consider anything less than a proven head coach that has already succeeded at a power program. I would also consider Minter, I think I would personally prefer for Michigan to stay away from the Harbaugh tree for its next hire.
