The singer joined Kelly Rowland and Tina Knowles to celebrate the completion of the 31-unit Knowles-Rowland House.
Blue Ivy Carter and her younger sister Rumi joined Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Tina Knowles in Houston for the opening of a housing development serving people experiencing chronic homelessness. The ceremony marked the completion of a project first announced in 2023 and another family appearance following the sisters’ “Cowboy Carter” tour appearances.
The ribbon-cutting took place Tuesday, Oct. 13, at St. John’s Downtown, the church where Beyoncé was baptized. The Detroit Free Press covered the family gathering on Oct. 15. Blue Ivy, 14, and Rumi, 9, joined the adults onstage, where both daughters helped cut the ribbon.
The Knowles-Rowland House provides 31 permanent supportive apartments at 2019 Crawford St. in Houston’s Midtown neighborhood. The redevelopment was estimated to cost $8.4 million in 2023. Bread of Life, the nonprofit behind the development, says the completed building cost $13.96 million.
The property previously housed the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, built in 1999 with support from Beyoncé, Rowland and members of the Knowles family. Over the years, it served as a youth summer camp, senior community center and overnight shelter. A fire in March 2021 ended those services, and redevelopment began in 2023.
“This church was our foundation. I was baptized right here,” Beyoncé said at the ceremony. She thanked pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus for their prayers and support. Tina Knowles called the opening a full-circle moment, recalling the family’s connection to the church and its community work.
The three-story development includes 16 apartments designed for residents with mobility or sensory needs. All 31 units are subsidized through a federal housing voucher program. Temenos Community Development Corporation will provide on-site services, including case management, mental health counseling, transportation assistance and access to food.
Beyoncé’s daughters have made several public appearances with their mother. Blue Ivy danced during the “Cowboy Carter” tour, while Rumi joined the show for her onstage debut in 2025.
The housing development’s first residents are scheduled to move in Nov. 1, according to Bread of Life.
