While the NCAA may be powerless to do anything about Texas Tech allowing Brendan Sorsby to work with the team despite admitting to betting on football, perhaps the Big 12 Conference can.
According to college football insider Brandon Marcello, the Big 12 executive committee is set to meet to discuss possible sanctions against Texas Tech. A full board meeting of presidents and chancellors is reportedly going to take place this Monday.
"The Big 12’s executive committee will meet today to discuss possible sanctions against Texas Tech, a source tells @CBSSports. The full board of presidents and chancellors will then meet Monday. Big 12 athletic directors met earlier this week to voice their opinions," Marcello wrote on X.

Useful or Pointless?
Football fans quickly began debating whether the Big 12 has the power to actually do anything that won't get immediately overturned by a judge.
"If the Big 12 sanctions Tech under its own bylaws, that opens a second legal front separate from the NCAA case. Whether Tech could get an injunction against the conference often turns on how clearly those bylaws bind members to the penalty," one user on X remarked.
"If they do… it’ll be overturned quickly. There’s a valid court order that will just have things added too it," another wrote.
"What a ridiculous dog and pony show, they are well aware anything they try will be deemed illegal. This is all for show," a third declared.
"Here's what I think will happen: The Big 12 announces they're putting sanctions on Tech (maybe not thrown out of the league, but something). Cody Campbell says 'No you're not' and finds a judge to overturn them."
"The Big 12 has every right to do as it feels must be done against the Red Raiders."
"This is the way. Pushing back on this terrible ruling should happen regardless of the school or player involved."
Texas Tech's powers that be, from their head coach to the athletic director to top booster Cody Campbell have aggressively defended their right to keep Sorsby on the team despite betting on football.
While the team hasn't committed to putting him on the field yet, it's clearly the principle of the thing that has every other school deeply distressed by it all.
