The 2026 Big 12 football season continues to inch closer. Only 52 short days until Colorado kicks off against Georgia Tech on Thursday, Sept. 3.

Important offseason events continue to come and go as we get closer to the season. Over the summer months, ESPN released its power rating metrics, SP+ and Football Power Index. With FPI having received its update just last week, we have a good feeling for what each program will look like during the upcoming season.

Within those ratings, we have conference championship chances and the likelihood that a team reaches six or more wins.

As a reminder, here is how ESPN describes the methodology behind its Football Power Index:

The ratings span the entire college football landscape, but you can also sort by specific conferences. In such a crowded Big 12, it is essential to focus on how the 16 teams stack up.

With that in mind, here are ESPN’s FPI’s record predictions for every Big 12 football team in 2025, ordered from lowest to highest.

  1. Iowa State Cyclones
    • Record: 5.1-6.9
  2. West Virginia Mountaineers
    • Record: 5.4-6.6
  3. Arizona State Sun Devils
    • Record: 6.0-6.1
  4. Oklahoma State Cowboys
    • Record: 6.0-6.1
  5. Colorado Buffaloes
    • Record: 6.0-6.1
  6. Kansas Jayhawks
    • Record: 6.0-6.0
  7. UCF Knights
    • Record: 6.1-5.9
  8. Cincinnati Bearcats
    • Record: 6.4-5.7
  9. Baylor Bears
    • Record: 6.6-5.5
  10. TCU Horned Frogs
    • Record: 6.8-5.3
  11. Kansas State Wildcats
    • Record: 7.0-5.1
  12. Arizona Wildcats
    • Record: 7.3-4.8
  13. Houston Cougars
    • Record: 7.4-4.7
  14. Utah Utes
    • Record: 7.7-4.4
  15. BYU Cougars
    • Record: 8.7-3.6
  16. Texas Tech Red Raiders
    • Record: 10.8-1.8

Once again, the Big 12 will be as tight as ever. With five teams, including Colorado, projected to finish right around 6-6. That comes after a relatively big second tier with Utah, Houston and Arizona listed as borderline 8-win programs. Texas Tech and BYU lead the way as the conference’s two powerhouses and likely College Football Playoff participants.
