The season has entered its final few weeks and we finally saw a Penn State victory. But, what else was going on around the Big Ten over the weekend? Let’s take a look at some of the storylines.
Best Win of the Week: USC Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive
It was a rare rainy, nasty weather day in Southern California. But, it wound up being an important day for the Trojans. They’ll play Oregon in a big game next week, but first they had to rally from a two-touchdown deficit against Iowa on Saturday.
Worst Loss of the Week: Michigan State loses multiple games in a week
The Spartans stayed winless in conference play as Penn State snapped its losing streak with a 28-10 win in East Lansing on Saturday. But, Michigan State also saw wins from the past few seasons vacated because of violations and current coach Jonathan Smith is on the hot seat in year No. 2. It’s a bad time in Sparty land.
Offensive Player of the Week: Andrew Marsh, Michigan
The freshman had 12 catches for 189 yards, both Michigan freshman records, as the Wolverines rallied for a win against Northwestern in Wrigley Field.
Defensive Player of the Week: Dani Dennis-Sutton, Penn State
DDS had back-to-back sacks that helped shift momentum in Penn State’s 28-10 win against Michigan State. He also blocked a punt in the second quarter – his third of the season.
Offensive Play of the Week: Noah Whittington, Oregon
This is Beast Mode level from the Duck running back, who broke about 15 tackles on his way to this touchdown in Oregon’s win against Minnesota last Friday.
Defensive…ah…Special Teams Play of the Week: Lorenzo Styles, Jr., Ohio State
Ohio State hadn’t returned a kickoff for a score since 2010. Styles answered UCLA’s third-quarter touchdown with this 100-yard return for a score.
Big Ten Moment of the Week: Land Grant Trophy
It’s beautiful. Best trophy game ever.
Big Ten West Moment of the Week: Same as it ever was
Former Big Ten West members were 1-5 on the weekend as Nebraska had the bye. Only Illinois, playing non-September Maryland was able to get a win. Northwestern and Iowa both lost fourth quarter leads in their losses.
Iowa Moment of the Week: Check out this interception…
Have you ever seen a ball deflect THIS much on an interception.
What We’re Looking Forward to the Most: A night game in November…
For years, these were never a reality in the Big Ten. Now, Penn State will have its Senior Day at night. Bring some blankets. But, good news, tickets are going to be cheap.
