Notre Dame has landed a commitment from one of its most important targets, with Chicago (Ill.) Brother Rice defensive tackle Brayden Parks pledging to the Fighting Irish. This recruitment was one of the longest in the 2027 class and Notre Dame beat out Oregon and Ohio State to land this talented prospect.
The Irish have been recruiting the 6-3, 300-pound defensive tackle for about two years, and during his recruitment he made at least eight visits to campus. Despite already landing a pair of defensive tackles the Irish staff continued making Parks a top priority, and ultimately landed his commitment. Parks is a unique talent that gives the Notre Dame defense something it wants more of, which is a 300-plus pound, physical, powerful, productive interior defender. Parks joins a defensive tackle class that already had Chicago (Ill.) St. Patrick five-star David Folorunsho and Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee four-star Segun Alexander. Both Folorunsho and Alexander can play both interior spots, but Parks has a game that complements those two players, which is why he remained such an important recruit even after they committed.
Parks was a dominant player as a junior for Brother Rice, helping fuel the Crusaders to a state championship. He used his power, athletic skill and high football intelligence to rack up 61 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. Parks also added two forced fumbles, five pass break ups and he picked off a pass as well. Brother Rice gave up just 8.8 points per game in its four playoff games, which included a pair of shut outs. Brother Rice won the state championship over St. Rita in a 16-0 game, and Parks was a driving force in that shut down defensive performance.
Notre Dame's defensive line class overall is truly elite, as the Irish also landed five-star edge Abraham Sesay, as well as four-star defensive ends Jackson Vaughn and Aidan O'Neil. All six of Notre Dame's 2027 defensive line commits are either a five or four-star prospect.
The Brother Rice standout grades out as a Top 100 recruit on the Irish Breakdown board. He is a consensus four-star recruit that ranks as the nation's No. 161 overall player by 247Sports and No. 195 overall by Rivals/On3. He had offers from Ohio State, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Miami (Fla.), LSU, Indiana, Oklahoma, USC, Texas A&M, Florida, Ole Miss, Michigan, Tennessee, Nebraska, Auburn, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Purdue, Virginia Tech and Washington among many others.
Parks is the 23rd player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class. He joins Florida quarterback Champ Monds, Texas running back Lathan Whisenton, Massachusetts running back Isaiah Rogers, Florida wide receiver Julius Jones Jr., Colorado wide receiver Jackson Coleman, Oklahoma tight end Titus Hawk, Louisiana offensive lineman Albert Simien, New Jersey offensive lineman Olu Olubobola, Pennsylvania offensive lineman James Halter, Wisconsin lineman Richie Flanigan, California offensive lineman Jackson Hill, Sesay, Vaughn, O'Neil, Folorunsho, Alexander, Illinois linebacker Roman Igwebuike, North Carolina cornerback Xavier Hasan, Ohio cornerback Ace Alston, Florida safety Zayden Gamble, Florida nickel John Gay III and North Carolina long snapper Sean Kraft.
