Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops thinks a big upset will happen in college football this weekend that will have a major impact on the College Football Playoff.

Stoops made his predictions for this weekend’s biggest games and he has the Pittsburgh Panthers upsetting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m going to go with Pittsburgh,” said Stoops. “It’s at Pittsburgh. Notre Dame, I mean, they’ve won, but who have they really played? Pittsburgh, I’m sure, is going to have some kind of attitude for it. So I’m going to go with Pittsburgh.”

A loss to Pittsburgh would ruin Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff hopes

A loss to Pittsburgh would likely end Notre Dame’s chances of reaching the College Football Playoff.

At that point, Notre Dame would have three losses and their best win would be against USC. With games remaining against Syracuse and Stanford, the Irish don’t have another chance to lock down a “signature win”. Beating Pitt is essentially to their playoff hopes.

Stoops, by the way, also has Oklahoma beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa (as expected — Stoops never picks against the Sooners). And he has Georgia beating Texas (also as expected — Stoops never picks the Longhorns to win).

It should be an exciting weekend of college football as we hit the final stretch of the 2025 season.
