Boise State state football experiencing travel issues ahead of Oregon matchup

Boise State will open the 2026 season against No. 2 Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 5, but the big weekend got off to a bumpy start.

The Broncos are dealing with travel issues that have made for a long day trying to get to Eugene, Oregon due to weather. The team was scheduled to fly into Eugene Airport in the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 4, but were unable to land after multiple attempts to do, according to Flight Radar data. The attempt came as it was raining in the area.

Ultimately, the plane was diverted to Portland International Airport, landing around 3 p.m. local time, hoping to eventually fly down to Eugene after the brief stop. However, weather was also an issue in Portland, resulting in the team not able to get in the sky again, and instead having to take a bus down to Eugene, Boise State confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.

As of 6 p.m. PT, the team hadn't left on the busses for the roughly two hour drive from Portland to Eugene, meaning the Boise State squad will still be traveling well into the night. The earliest the Broncos could be arriving at their team hotel is at 9 p.m.

It's certainly not the way Boise State wanted to start the campaign, especially considering the Broncos and Ducks kick off at 12:30 p.m. local time, meaning it will have to be up quite early after a long travel day results in a longer night.

Boise State is starting its first season as a Pac-12 member in the rebranded conferences, and will try to win its first game at Autzen Stadium since 2008, owning a 3-1 record all-time against Oregon.
