As we get closer and closer to the start of the 2026 early signing period, we will continue to get tidbits of news with Ohio State football recruiting. In fact, we've already heard some news over the last few weeks, and just got a commitment announcement on Friday.

Offensive lineman Mason Wilhelm, the son of former Ohio State linebacker Matt Wilhelm, announced his verbal commitment to the Buckeyes through a social media post. Wilhelm had been committed to North Carolina before the announcement.

Out of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, Willhelm is ranked as the No. 101 interior offensive lineman in the cycle and the 56th best prospect in the state according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. That won't excite a lot of folks, but as we have seen, the offensive line is the hardest group to evaluate and often sees the most development. It's clear the OSU coaches must like what they see from the 6-foot, 4-inch, 285-pounder.

The elder Wilhelm played for Ohio State from 1999-2002. He was a consensus All-American and helped lead the Buckeyes to the BCS national championship in 2002 during his senior campaign.

Wilhelm becomes the fifth offensive lineman commitment in the 2026 class and the 23rd overall commit. We'll continue to hear more news as things get closer to early December.
