Brayton Feister of Massillon commits to Oregon football. Here's why

One of the most sought-after high school football stars in the class of 2027 has made his college selection.

Massillon linebacker and former Hoban star Brayton Feister announced on the "Pat McAfee Show" on ESPN he has committed to Oregon.

It's a decision he announced on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, but he knew to some extent in June 2025 when he visited the campus for the first time. That feeling was reaffirmed on Nov. 22 when he watched in person as the Ducks beat USC 42-27 at Autzen Stadium and then again June 19-21 of this year on his official visit.

"When you get out there, after the season they had, and you talk to the coaching staff, it was kind of eye-opening," Feister said. "When I got to see all the facilities and everything that they do for the players, rehab-wise, analytics-wise, I was like, 'Man, this is really, really a great spot.' I love the atmosphere, love the campus, love what the guys do, what the guys are about, how disciplined the team is, and I love how they structure everything. I was like, 'Man, this is really somewhere I could see myself.'

"You don't really know exactly what it is, but you just know something draws you to that place. That's kind of how I picked Oregon."

What the tipping point was that led Brayton Feister to Oregon

Feister is a three-time MaxPreps All-American. He was the Beacon Journal's Defensive Player of the Year and Ohio's Division II Co-Defensive Player of the Year last season.

He had nearly 40 offers, including national champion Indiana, national runner-up Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC and Washington. He took official visits to Cal, Oregon and Georgia. He had those three and Ohio State in his final four.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pound standout is a four-star recruit and is ranked as the eighth-best athlete in the nation and seventh-best player in Ohio regardless of position.

It was as much about the Jimmies and the Joes as the X's and O's for Feister, who is expected to hit the ground running in January when he plans to graduate from Massillon early and get on campus.

Coach Dan Lanning already is sharing schemes with Feister with plans on playing him at linebacker immediately. The Ducks also are including packages on offense to allow him to carry the ball.

"It means the world because ultimately that's something that I look for in a program, being able to play early," Feister said. "With them believing in my talent and being like, 'Hey, we want this guy in our games. We want him in our offense. We want packages for him. We want him on our defense. We want him to lead the defense.' Just to hear that stuff and it's not just hearsay is great. I am already learning the defensive playbook. I'm working installs already. The coaches, they are genuinely putting their time in with me to get me ready."

What Oregon is getting in Brayton Feister

Feister is a three-time All-Ohioan and two-time first-team selection.

Last season, he led the Knights to a regional final. Feister made 133 tackles, 39 for loss, with 13 sacks, four forced fumbles, two interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. He also had 116 carries for 1,098 yards and 17 TDs. Feister and his brother, Brydon, transferred to Massillon on May 4. Brydon, a Class of 2028 recruit, holds 20 Division I offers.

Last season, Oregon qualified for the College Football Playoffs and finished with a 13-2 record. Their only losses came to Indiana, once on Oct. 11 and the other in the Peach Bowl.

"To be able to go from high school to a caliber of college program like Oregon, it's amazing," Feister said. "Just being able to get into that atmosphere, to get there on campus, to be able to start working with the team, to start bonding with the guys, start building that relationship off the field and on the field, just getting to work with them is great.

"I get mixed feelings about it because once I go to college, that's it. When January hits, I'm a man. I'm no longer at home. I don't have anybody with me. It's 2,000 miles away. It's scary, but at the end of the day, I'm achieving my dream. I'm doing what I want to do."
