How John Harbaugh builds out his coaching staff with the New York Giants will be significant to team success. We have seen missteps within that capacity for each of the last four head coaches to hold this job on a permanent basis, all of whom were fired.

Harbaugh, 63, was officially hired as the Giants' coach on Saturday, sources confirmed to NorthJersey.com and The Record.

Harbaugh's 18-year tenure in Baltimore in which his teams posted 15 winning seasons and his vast connections should provide the Giants with absolute confidence that completing this part of the gig is not as big of a challenge as it has proven to be for his predecessors.

A priority is establishing the best structure to help Jaxson Dart maximize his potential heading into Year 2, so keep that in mind when Harbaugh looks to build his offensive staff.

Here are options for offensive coordinator under Harbaugh, beginning with the one candidate that makes the most sense prior to the interviewing process. Remember: teams must comply with the league's Rooney Rule, and with coordinators, teams must interview at least one minority candidate for each position from outside the organization to satisfy the rule.

Todd Monken, Ravens OC

This one does not take much dot connecting. Monken was Harbaugh's OC in Baltimore and there have already been reports that he is ready to join his old boss with the Giants. Monken's offense both in the NFL in Tampa and Baltimore and going back to his time at the University of Georgia would seem to fit Dart's skill set tremendously. Monken could still get a head coaching opportunity that would take him out of the mix, but he's the favorite right now once the process plays out.

Mike Kafka, Giants interim HC

Kafka staying here makes sense for continuity with Dart, and his time as interim head coach might help his resume down the road. What would the offense look like if Kafka had carte blanche from the start, rather than a collaboration with Brian Daboll? Still, it seems more likely that Kafka ends up elsewhere, maybe back in Kansas City with one of mentors, Andy Reid, especially if Matt Nagy lands a head coaching job.

Kliff Kingsbury, Commanders OC

Kingsbury is in the hunt for head coaching jobs as well as offensive coordinator fits after leaving Washington. He's one of the best offensive minds in the league and had a hand in Jayden Daniels' phenomenal rookie season. Would Harbaugh consider him in this spot?

Tommy Rees, Browns OC

Rees, the former Notre Dame star, actually interviewed for the head coaching vacancy in Cleveland. He actually called the offense despite being beside an offensive head coach in Kevin Stefanski. This would be an option if things veered off the usual suspect list.

Davis Webb, Broncos pass game coordinator/QB coach

The soon-to-be 31-year-old is on the fast track to be a head coach in this league. The former Giants quarterback has learned at the hip of Sean Payton in Denver. It would be a surprise if he didn't get an interview and could emerge as a strong OC candidate anywhere, especially here.

Mike McDaniel, former Dolphins head coach

McDaniel is one of the top names on the list after his firing in Miami. He's a creative play caller from the Mike Shanahan tree who is proven. Whether Harbaugh would go down this road remains to be seen.

Greg Roman, former Ravens/Chargers OC

Roman has spent time with both Harbaugh brothers, and his time with Jim came to an abrupt end with his firing earlier this week. Sure, there is a match given his previous stop with John in Baltimore. Roman seems like more of a fit on staff as a position coach or run game coordinator if that were to become an opportunity.
