BREAKING: Jimmy Rogers leaves for Iowa State

Washington State head football coach Jimmy Rogers is leaving the program to take the job at Iowa State after one season in Pullman.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel was first to announce the hire; Iowa State later confirmed it in a press release.

The Iowa State job officially became vacant this morning when it was announced that Matt Campbell would be leaving to take the job at Penn State. Not even 12 hours later, Iowa State has already filled their vacancy with Rogers.

It’s a shocking turn of events, as Rogers just helped lead the Cougars to bowl eligibility with a win in the regular season finale not even a week ago in just his first season on campus.

Rogers returns to the Midwest, where he spent most of his football life as both a player and coach for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Rogers won the national championship in 2023 in his first season as the Jackrabbits’ head coach.

Now, for the fourth time since the end of the 2019 season, WSU will be in search of another head football coach. This also comes at a time when WSU is still searching for a new athletic director after firing Anne McCoy a few weeks ago.

WSU is still awaiting to find out what bowl they will be playing in later this month. Defensive Coordinator Jessie Bobbit will be the team’s interim head coach.
