There had been rumors swirling about Michigan football making a change and that Sherrone Moore was in trouble as the Wolverines' head coach. But everything appeared to be in good standing for the second-year leader of the maize and blue heading into the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
However, things moved quickly in Ann Arbor.
The coaching carousel continues to shift in college football, as On3 is reporting that Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore has been fired.
Sherrone Moore has been fired as Michigan head coach, On3’s Pete Nakos reported. He took over for Jim Harbaugh in 2024 and led the Wolverines to a 16-8 record in the full-time role.
Moore led the Wolverines to a 9-3 record this season and 8-5 in 2024, having gone 1-1 against Ohio State. He was 4-0 as the acting head coach in 2023.
It's official per Michigan football:
U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.
Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.
