Brendan Sorsby in supplemental draft? Browns' Monken shares opinion

Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken indicated that he wouldn't be inclined to select Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby in the NFL's supplemental draft, if Sorsby isn't eligible to play college football.

Sorsby's attorneys are seeking a temporary injunction allowing him to play at Texas Tech in 2026. The NCAA ruled him ineligible and denied his request for reinstatement.

"I don't think we're in a position to want to go down that road," Monken said Monday about Sorsby, per ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi. "That's my opinion, that's not (general manager Andrew Berry's). I like the quarterbacks that we have. I think that's a slippery slope when you go down that, irrespective of talent, right? In terms of the situation he's (put) himself in, we all know what that is. He put himself in that situation. And we've seen in other sports with players that have been banned for life from playing in professional sports."

Sorsby placed at least 40 bets involving Indiana University football while QB for the Hoosiers, used sportsbook accounts registered to a family member and friends to wager approximately $90,000 over four years and continued to gamble after transferring from the University of Cincinnati to Texas Tech, according to ESPN.

Sorsby played the past two seasons for the Bearcats after spending his first two seasons at IU. Sorsby left UC for Texas Tech, which he chose over LSU.

State gaming regulators in Ohio and Indiana reportedly launched investigations earlier in May into Sorsby's alleged betting activity.
