COLUMBIA, MO — Mississippi State football coach Jeff Lebby did not have much information on the status of injured top wide receiver Brenen Thompson.
"It was early," he said. "Frustrating for us, but I do not have an update yet."
Thompson exited the Nov. 15 game at Missouri with an unspecified injury and was on the sideline in street clothes after halftime.
The Bulldogs (5-6, 1-6 SEC) lost 49-27 to the No. 24 Tigers (7-3, 3-3) at Memorial Stadium. They have an open week before hosting Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28 (11 a.m., ABC or ESPN) in the season finale.
Thompson entered the game with 808 receiving yards, the most in the SEC. He had two catches for 60 yards in the game.
Anthony Evans III, MSU's other starter, was the team's top receiver in the game with seven receptions for 71 yards.
Other wide receivers like Jordan Mosley, Ayden Williams, Sanfrisco Magee and Ricky Johnson played more after Thompson's injury but did not provide much production. Magee was the only wide receiver besides Evans and Thompson who had multiple catches with two for 27 yards.
