With four games left in the 2025 NFL regular season, the head coaching carousel is beginning to gain traction before the upcoming offseason.

While many believe that Cleveland Browns’ head coach, Kevin Stefanski, is on the hot seat, the attention quickly shifted to the future of the offensive coordinator position this week.

According to Browns’ beat writer Mary Kay Cabot on Thursday, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees is drawing interest from the Michigan Wolverines to fill the program’s head coach vacancy.

Earlier this week, former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was fired “with cause,” which has forced the program to scramble for a new head coach. And with most colleges already filling their head coach vacancies this offseason, it makes sense that the Wolverines would look at the NFL.

Before joining the Browns in 2024, Rees began his coaching career with the then San Diego Chargers back in 2016 as the team’s offensive assistant. He would quickly go to the college level in 2017 and join his alma mater, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, as the quarterbacks coach.

It wouldn’t be until 2020 that he would receive his first offensive coordinator job when the Fighting Irish promoted him to the position. And in 2023, Rees joined legendary Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Prior to becoming Cleveland’s offensive coordinator, Rees was the organization’s tight ends coach in 2024.

However, this would quickly change this season once the Browns announced that he would become the next offensive coordinator after the firing of Ken Dorsey.

The former Notre Dame quarterback would then take over play-calling duties for Stefanski in the middle of the 2025 season.

With Rees in charge, the Browns’ offense has begun to make strides this year. In addition to contributing to the offensive efforts, Rees continues to make progress with rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders throughout his first three starts in the NFL.

Depending on how the team handles the coaching staff this offseason, there’s a good chance that Rees would be interested in the head coaching position for Michigan.

If general manager Andrew Berry ultimately decides to part ways with Stefanski, the Browns’ next head coach would likely pick his next offensive coordinator.
