Buffalo's Head Coach Brings Up Crazy Stats When Speaking About Penn State's Defense

Penn State has one of its easiest games of the year coming up on Saturday, as it will take on Buffalo in State College. 

Penn State really doesn't have any excuse not to win this game by at least a couple of touchdowns, despite playing poorly against Temple. It would be nice to see Penn State come out and do what it has to do on both sides of the football after a pretty average performance against the Owls.

As for how Buffalo sees this game, I doubt it's coming in expecting to win. 

However, if Buffalo can at least compete, there's reason to believe that it will be pretty happy with how things have gone. 

It's also important to recognize that Penn State is a very different team than a squad like Buffalo from top to bottom, whether it's talent, experience, or anything else.

Speaking to reporters before the game, Buffalo's head coach emphasized Penn State's defensive experience.

“A lot of new faces on their roster, but a lot of experience. When you look at their defense, there’s over 10,000 snaps of starting experience, college reps in their starting defense. Each position group — I think the defensive line was around 3,500. 

“The linebackers were around 3,000 or so, and then the secondary, the same thing. So for those of you that know Malcolm Gladwell, right, and some of the things that he’s written about, you talk about 10,000 hours to master something. … These guys have got 10,000 snaps just on defense. It’s a very, very high-energy, very active group,” Pete Lembo said, per Centre Daily.

Experience is definitely a big factor in college football, and Penn State has to keep relying on it. 

Head coach Matt Campbell has a ton of experience coaching as well. Considering he brought over most of his team from Iowa State, there's really no excuse for Penn State not to play well for much of this season.

That experience should go a long way and, hopefully for Penn State, will lead to a College Football Playoff berth later in the season for the Nittany Lions.
