Building the perfect Florida football recruit, the 2027 RB prototype

There is no such thing as a perfect recruit, but what if we could make one?

Better yet, if college coaches built a high school football player in a lab, what he look like? What would be the most important traits?

Basically, what would the Frankenstein Recruit look like?

Obviously, there really isn't one mold that would work. No coach is looking for a 335-pound wide receiver or a wiry, 175-pound speedster at defensive tackle.

Different positions have different requirements, which means every position is going to have the different desired attributes.

Using only Florida high school players from the 2027 recruiting class, USA TODAY Florida Network recruiting reporters Jon Santucci and Nick Wilson are building a Frankenstein Recruit at each position.

Here is the running back they built:

Frame: Tranard Roberts, Villages Charter

USA TODAY Florida Top 100 rank: No. 45

Offers include: Florida, North Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee

Roberts, at 5-foot-11and 195 pounds, looks every bit of a Division I ball carrier. He has a thick base that promotes impressive balance, broad shoulders, and thick neck. He's a stout, explosive runner that has that blend of speed and power that makes elite running backs.

Vision: Connail Jackson, Cardinal Mooney

Cardinal Mooney won its Class 2A-Region 3 quarterfinal over North Broward Prep 55-7 on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025. Connail Jackson (34) finishes off a strong run.

USA TODAY Florida Top 100 rank: No. 73

Offers include: UCF, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, North Carolina

Jackson ran behind a really good offensive line last year, and he made the most of it. He rushed for 839 yards and 11 touchdowns through the final three games of the year for the Cougars, carving up playoff defenses with elite vision and patience. Jackson (5-foot-10, 188 pounds) is one of the more polished backs in this class, and finds gaps or makes cuts that an average player would simply not see.

Speed: Tyler Reid, St. Thomas Aquinas

USA TODAY Florida Top 100 rank: No. 89

Verbal commitment: Pitt

Reid, who logged a 10.53 100 meter time at the Class 4A Track and Field State Championships, is a legit speedster. He explodes out the backfield with his hair on fire, and there are few ball carriers who can get to the second level as quickly as he can. Despite being traditionally undersized (5-foot-7, 165 pounds), he is one of several elite runners that Pitt has scooped up from Florida.

Power: Dorien Jones, Venice

Venice running back Dorien Jones (#2) secures the ball as he gets tackled by Sumner defenders. The Venice Indians defeated the Sumner Stingrays 41-22 victory in the Class 7A-2 Regional Championship Friday night, Nov. 28, 2025 in Venice.

USA TODAY Florida Top 100 rank: No. 84

Verbal commitment: FIU

Jones simply does not go down on first contact. The FIU commit got the Indians out of many jams last year off of straight willpower, and his ability to turn a broken play into a positive gain is one of the most valuable on the field. His balance is elite, and he hits gaps with impressive power. Jones has the strength and explosiveness to be more than effective at the next level.
