Bye Week Comes At Right Time For Kansas State Wildcats With Injuries Mounting

The Kansas State Wildcats are entering their bye week after the first loss of the season.
It comes at an ideal time while receiver Jaron Tibbs and tight end Will Anciaux are dealing with injuries. After the loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats last Saturday at Nippert Stadium, K-State coach Collin Klein gave an update on their status.
"We'll see," Klein said. "I haven't gotten the final update. We need a little more information before I even know what their next couple of weeks will look like."
Tibbs was injured in the first quarter of the loss to the Bearcats. He left the field after catching a pass from quarterback Avery Johnson. Anciaux was also injured against Cincinnati.
If they are out an extended period of time, the Wildcats have plenty in their reserves. Receiver Derrick Salley Jr., helped fill in for Tibbs by catching seven passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. He did have a costly fumble at the start of the second half that seemed to change momentum. The Wildcats were ahead 17-10 at the time before falling 31-26.
If Anciaux is out, it should give more playing time to sophomore Linkon Cure behind Garrett Oakley. Cure is one of the most hyped players in Kansas State history. He is the first ever five-star recruit to play in Manhattan. Last year he showed signs of promise before dealing with a few nagging injuries. This could be his biggest chance to finally have a breakout with the Wildcats after arriving with so much fanfare.
The Wildcats now have a week off to fix issues and heal after the loss in the Big 12 opener to the Bearcats. The defeat prevented them from making their first 4-0 start since 2012 back when Klein was the quarterback.
The Wildcats return to action Oct. 10 against the Houston Cougars at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan.
