Byrum Brown, Alex McPherson earn SEC honors after Auburn's upset of Georgia

Auburn football's epic upset of No. 1 Georgia is capped off with a pair of conference Player of the Week awards.

The SEC announced Monday that Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown and kicker Alex McPherson have won Player of the Week honors for their performances in the Tigers' 27-24 win over the top-ranked Bulldogs in Athens last Saturday.

Brown was named the outright SEC Offensive Player of the Week after passing for 150 yards, rushing for 115 yards, and scoring two touchdowns in the win over previously unbeaten Georgia last Saturday. Saturday marked the second straight week Brown passed for and rushed for over 100 yards in a single game, and it was the 22nd time he accomplished the feat in his career. He has also scored a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown in four straight games, joining Nick Marshall and Cam Newton as the only three Auburn quarterbacks to reach the mark.

Kicker Alex McPherson earned co-SEC Special Teams Player of the Week alongside Tennessee's Cooper Ranvier after going 2-for-2 on field goal attempts; one was the game-winner as time expired, lifting Auburn to a 27-24 victory. Like Brown, McPherson joined elite company on Saturday as his walk-off 34-yard field goal was Auburn's first in regulation since Wes Byrum sank the game-winner against Oregon in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game. This award is McPherson's second of his career and his first since last season, when he went 6-for-6 on extra-point attempts and nailed a 47-yard field goal, the longest of his career at that point, in Auburn's win over Arkansas.

The duo will look to earn another SEC weekly honor next week when the Auburn Tigers host LSU for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff on Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
