ARLINGTON, Texas — There will be no upset in this year’s Big 12 championship game.
The favored, No. 4-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders handled BYU 34-7 Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington to capture the Big 12 crown, almost certainly ending the Cougars’ hopes for a College Football Playoff berth.

For Texas Tech, it’s the program’s first-ever Big 12 title and the first outright conference championship in Lubbock since 1955.
While BYU opened the contest with a 90-yard touchdown drive, the Red Raiders answered with 34 unanswered points to bully, bury and blow out the Cougars in front of a national television audience.
Texas Tech forced four BYU turnovers — two interceptions and two fumbles — and held the Cougars to just yards per carry along with total yards following their opening scoring drive.
The Red Raiders will undoubtedly receive a first round bye in the College Football Playoff, while BYU will head to a non-Playoff bowl sometime after Christmas.
