For the second straight week, BYU is just outside the top 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Cougars remained at No. 11 in Tuesday’s updated poll following a road win over Cincinnati, while Utah dropped a spot to No. 13 after a chaotic victory over Kansas State.

Three 2-loss teams still rank just ahead of 10-1 BYU: Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Alabama. Miami, the highest-ranked ACC team, leapfrogged the Utes to get to No. 12.
If the Playoff started today, the Cougars would be the first team on the outside looking in, with both the ACC champion and Group of 5 representative Tulane jumping over them into the field.

Texas Tech, who has defeated both BYU and Utah, stayed put at No. 5. The other Big 12 teams in the rankings are No. 20 Arizona State and No. 25 Arizona.
BYU can clinch a trip to the Big 12 championship game with a win over UCF this weekend or an Arizona State loss. Should the Cougars get to Arlington and emerge victorious, they’d secure an automatic Playoff bid.
