Just one day after Oregon Ducks offensive analyst Steven Haunga was hired by Tosh Lupoi at Cal, another analyst, this time on the defensive side of the ball, will join Lupoi with the Golden Bears. Darrion Daniels has served as a defensive analyst for the past two seasons with the Ducks, marking the first coaching role of his brief coaching career.

Daniels previously played college football at Oklahoma State and Nebraska before going undrafted and bouncing around the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons’ practice squads. He signed with the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions for one season before retiring and being hired by Oregon in 2024.

Daniels will serve as Cal’s defensive line and pass rush specialist coach.

Since being hired as the Golden Bears head coach in early December, Lupoi has worn two hats: leading Oregon’s defensive preparations in the College Football Playoff and building his program at Cal. Part of the latter is crafting his staff, which — as is the reality of working alongside fellow coaches — includes bringing along trusted Duck coaches.

Just in the last two days, Haunga and Daniels have been officially announced as Cal hirings, following Lupoi to Cal, with others possibly still joining them.
