Christian Academy’s Ja’Hyde Brown and Garyon Hobbs, two of Kentucky’s top football prospects in the Class of 2027, announced their commitments to Indiana University on Saturday.

The announcements came one day after Indiana crushed Oregon 56-22 in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. The Hoosiers (15-0) will face Miami in the national championship game on Jan. 19.

Brown, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound wide receiver, received first-team All-State honors from The Courier Journal last season after ranking No. 1 in the state in receptions (98), receiving yards (1,566) and touchdown catches (24) and helping the Centurions win their fourth straight Class 3A state title.

Brown also had two returns for touchdowns — one punt and one kickoff. Brown is a four-star recruit and the No. 7-ranked prospect in Kentucky’s Class of 2027, according to 247Sports.com. He was named the Class 3A Player of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.

“Ja'Hyde is the most electric player in the state of Kentucky,” CAL coach Hunter Cantwell said. “He is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He regularly made other top prospects on opposing teams look slow and unathletic. He is simply unstoppable when he touches the field.”

Hobbs, 6 feet and 215 pounds, earned first-team All-State honors as a defensive back at Atherton last season. He played all over the field for a Ravens squad that reached the Class 5A state semifinals for the first time in program history.

Hobbs ranked second on the defense with 71 tackles (47 solo), 11 tackles for loss, five interceptions, three sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He also had a team-high 35 receptions for 583 yards and scored 15 touchdowns (seven receiving, three rushing, three interception returns, one punt return, one kickoff return).

“Impact player on both sides of the ball,” Atherton coach Anthony White said. “You looking for the best pound-for-pound football player in the state? Here you go. He can do it all. No true weaknesses in his game. I've seen him score every way possible.”

Hobbs was named Class 5A, District Three Player of the Year by the KFCA and is the No. 8-ranked recruit in Kentucky’s junior class, according to 247Sports.com.

He played at CAL as a freshman and sophomore and has transferred back to the school after spending the fall semester at Atherton.
