Lane Kiffin hasn't even been LSU football's head coach for a week, but the Tigers are already building momentum on the recruiting trail. LSU is looking to make a splash by flipping five-star wideout Jase Matthews, according to a social media post from Rivals.
Matthews committed to Auburn earlier this year. His three finalists were LSU, Ole Miss, and Auburn. In the last week, all three schools have named new head coaches. That's given Matthews a chance to reconsider.
Matthews is one of the top wide receivers in this recruiting cycle. Per the Rivals Industry Rankings, Matthews is the No. 64 overall prospect and No. 9-ranked receiver. Rivals is high on Matthews, giving him five stars in their own ratings.
A Mississippi native, Matthews was recruited by Lane Kiffin and new LSU receivers coach George McDonald when they were at Ole Miss. All three schools that Matthews is considering are seeing a staff shakeup, but LSU could give Matthews familiarity.
Matthews is comfortable with LSU after being recruited by Kelly's staff and he's comfortable with the Ole Miss staff. Ole Miss and Auburn can't offer both of those things right now.

Matthews would have a chance to be an instant impact player in Baton Rouge if he picks the Tigers. The Early Signing Period began on Wednesday, but it remains open for a few days. Matthew's decision could come any time in that span.
