Five-star wide receiver Easton Royal has been a Texas football commit since November. But lately, it’s looking like he could flip to LSU. Meanwhile, five-star WR target Monshun Sales will announce his commitment on Friday. Experts believe his choice is down to defending national champion Indiana and the Longhorns. Can Texas land both?
Even after his commitment to UT, Royal has always seemed like he was still playing the field. Even after his final visit to Austin, he says he’s still trying to lock down his “final” decision.
“Trying to lock down my commitment, and I think they (Texas) did a really good job towards that, but you know obviously, me and my mom still got things to talk about, but they definitely set the tone the right way,” – Easton Royal
Now, the biggest program in his home state seems to be trending. Royal says LSU made a significant jump during his official visit to Baton Rouge. He says he’s now in decision mode with his decision coming later this month.
“All day at school, all of my friends are pushing me to flip to the LSU Tigers. You only get this process once – so I’m committed to Texas, but I’m still trying to figure out if that’s the best decision for me. The ultimate end goal is to make the best decision for my family and me. Coach Lane [Kiffin] and I are building a relationship. He texts me often, just telling me to have a good week—sending me videos, motivating me, and recruiting me to be an LSU Tiger.” – Easton Royal
Meanwhile, Texas is also heavily recruiting five-star wideout Monshun Sales. The Indianapolis native is one of the last uncommitted five-star prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
Sales will decide his future on Friday live on the Pat McAfee show. The blue chipper will pick between the Longhorns, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and Indiana. The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder took official visits to all five finalists this summer. The Longhorns got the final visit on June 19.
But experts believe it’s really a two horse race between the Hoosiers and Texas. Who he picks might give Longhorns fans a preview of the final decision by Easton Royal. There is a good chance the two five-star receivers will not end up at the same program.
Recruiting expert Justin Wells of On3’s Inside Texas does not think the two will both end up in Austin.
“It sounds cool that they would have the idea of playing together at a school, but that’s not real life. They’re not going to the same school. If they did, I think it would be Texas, as a matter of fact. But I just don’t see that. I don’t see that happening. I think they’re both making decisions based on both of what their needs and what their factors are. I just have a really hard time seeing both of those kids in the same class.” – Justin Wells of On3’s Inside Texas
“They’re not going to the same school”@justinwells2424 says Texas is trying to hold on to Easton Royal and land Monshun Sales at the same time!
But he doesn’t think these two 5-star WR’s will be playing for the same team 👀

While Wells thinks it is a long shot Texas coach Steve Sarkisian lands both five-stars, he does think the Longhorns will end up with one of the highly regarded receivers.
“Texas is hanging onto Royal as tight as possible. And they’re right on the edge of getting Monshun Sales. It is going to be cool and fascinating to see how this plays out. Because I do think Texas winds up ‘splitting the baby.’ I really do.” – Justin Wells of On3’s Inside Texas
We’ll see on Friday at 11 a.m. CT on the Pat McAfee Show where Sales goes. Then it’ll be time to watch Royal for the rest of the month to see if he sticks with Texas or flips to LSU.
