A Florida State fan wrote on X late Friday that he had canceled after 34 years as a Seminole booster, following a 44-20 loss at Louisville that dropped the Seminoles to 3-3.

Coach Mike Norvell’s Seminoles led 14-0 before Louisville stopped them on fourth-and-goal early in the second quarter and scored the next 35 points.

Pro Football Network’s College Football Playoff Meter, as of Saturday, projects Florida State to finish 5-7 and gives the Seminoles better than even odds in only one of their six remaining games.

Some Longtime Florida State Boosters Say They Are Done Giving

“After 34 years of being a Seminole booster I can’t do it anymore just cancelled,” the fan wrote.

The post follows a record fundraising year. Seminole Boosters announced in July that supporters gave more than $106 million in pledges and $86.3 million in cash contributions in fiscal 2026, both organizational records.

The organization said annual Booster membership, tied to season tickets, topped $30 million for the second straight year, in figures it called unaudited and preliminary.

“If Mike Norvell is coaching at FSU next year we will no longer be giving our money or time to FSU,” another fan wrote, adding that his family had been boosters and gone to games for 50 years.

Several others wrote that they had stopped giving before this season. Florida State followed its 2023 ACC title with a 2-10 record in 2024 and a 5-7 finish last season.

Early in the second quarter, with Florida State up 14-0, Norvell passed on a short field goal, and Louisville defensive back Kaleb Beasley stopped receiver Jasen Lopez at the 3 on fourth-and-goal. Running back Isaac Brown went 97 yards for a Louisville touchdown on the next play.

“We felt good about the play, still feel good about the thought process of it,” Norvell said. He said the idea was to pin Louisville deep, get a stop and give his offense a short field.

“Florida State-Louisville turned completely on one play, when Mike Norvell said no to a FG and 17-0 lead and was stopped on fourth down inside the 5,” Sports Illustrated senior writer Pat Forde wrote.

Louisville ran for 397 yards on 43 carries and scored all six of its touchdowns on the ground. Brown finished with a career-high 235 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, adding a 68-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Norvell said responsibility for the run defense fell on everyone, himself included. He said Florida State had allowed 20 rushing yards a week earlier.

Norvell is 41-37 overall at Florida State, where he is in his seventh season. The school fired athletic director Michael Alford, who brought Norvell back for this season, on Sept. 14.

“After Florida State’s blowout loss at Louisville, this finally feels like the end for Mike Norvell,” Ari Wasserman, who covers college football for On3, wrote in a post sharing his column.

A coaching change would be costly. On3 reported that Florida State would owe Norvell roughly $51 million if it fired him before the end of the season and, citing sources, that firing him and his staff and making a new hire would cost about $100 million.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported he would be owed about $46.5 million if fired Dec. 1, an amount that would shrink if he took another job. It also reported the school carried $437 million in athletics-related debt in 2025.

Looking Ahead in Week 7 to Miami

Florida State plays its Week 7 game at No. 4 Miami next Saturday. The Seminoles are 0-13 in road and neutral-site games since the 2023 ACC Championship Game. PFN’s College Football Playoff Meter gives them just a 14.3% chance to win.

A loss would drop their chance of reaching the ACC title game from 0.3% to 0.1%, according to the same FPM, but the ACC Championship is far from sight for this Seminoles team. The FPM favors FSU only at Boston College on Nov. 7, at 60.2%, and gives it a 43.4% chance against Clemson, 42.1% at Pittsburgh, 46.8% against NC State and 31.5% against Florida.

“Got a huge game next week, rivalry game,” Norvell said, adding that the team had to get Friday’s performance fixed.
