So, I already ranked the teams, 1 to 40.

How am a feeling about the conferences? There are 10 playing in the Football Bowl Subdivision. As the season approaches, here is my list — in reverse order of course.

If you think I've lost my marbles with the order, let me have it at . Remember, I'm sensitive so please no digital booing if that is a thing.

6. PAC-12 (8)

T

Boise State

— Yes. you thought the league was gone forever. Then the Broncos decided to abandon their friends in the Mountain West. I have to think this was always the goal for Boise, which was a step ahead of everyone else in the MW. And not just because of the Smurf turf.

Boise State is a name brand the rest of the new Pac-12-10-8 can get behind.

— Hard to call a nine-win season a disappointment but that's what was felt in the Idaho capital in 2025. Boise State is supposed to contend for the College Football Playoff, not be relegated to the now-defunct LA Bowl. Where it got drilled by Washington. All five losses were by double digits. But give the Broncos credit for getting even with UNLV in the Mountain West title game.

— Quarterback Maddux Madsen enters his third season as the starter. His past two seasons, he threw for 41 touchdowns and 15 interceptions (needs to drop). He scored nine TDs on runs too.

Yes, Madsen is named in honor of the Hall of Fame pitcher. Folks in Idaho want to see him bring the heat to Broncos opponents.

Boise State at Oregon, Sept. 5.

Easiest way for the newfangled Pac-12 to draw attention is with a monster upset against a Top 5 team … on its home field. Would be a lot like the 20007 Fiesta Bowl win against Oklahoma, which put the Broncos on another level.

7. Mountain West

8. Sun Belt

9. MAC

10. Conference USA
