Nov. 26—***

One of the best moments from the trip to Madison on Saturday — got there too late for cheese curds — was the chance to spend a few minutes with the hosts of my favorite TV/radio show.

Illinois alum Michelle Smallmon and Wisconsin graduate Evan Cohen make up two-thirds of ESPN Radio's national morning show "Unsportsmanlike with Evan, Canty and Michelle."

Chris Canty, a former Virginia and NFL standout, who won a Super Bowl ring with the Giants, didn't make the trip. His wife is expecting their first child toward the end of the year.

How do I know that? Because I watch "Unsportsmanlike" most days. You should too.

All sorts of Illinois and Wisconsin talk going into Saturday's game as the two hosts supported their alma maters.

They bet on the game, with the loser having to wear the winner's helmet on air for an hour. A warning to Smallmon: It will not be comfortable.

Cohen has taken a few in-fun jabs at Smallmon this week and she has given it right back. In a nice way.

There won't be a chance for an Illinois payback until 2027,when the teams play in Champaign-Urbana. Cohen and Smallmon talked on-air Tuesday about being at the game the next time the teams meet in C-U.

The earliest the teams will "Jump Around" in Madison is 2029.

I will still be tuning in to "Unsportsmanlike." The show provides a nice blend of the NFL and college sports. The hosts seem to genuinely like each other and have a blast. The audience laughs along with them. Smart and funny are always good things.

The show routinely has a strong lineup of guests, which speaks to the power of the ESPPN brand. On Friday, they broadcast from Madison and had Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Thomas and Illinois coach Bret Bielema on for segments.
