In 2026, the Big Ten is looking to extend its streak of national champions to four. With a handful of contenders that goal seems reachable.

The league would also like to start another streak: Heisman Trophy winners. Somebody will follow Indiana's Fernando Mendoza. Why not a guy from Tony Petitti's conference?

There are all sorts of Heisman contenders in the Big Ten. Here is my initial list of guys who will contend with Arch Manning, C.J. Carr and Darian Mensah for the best individual trophy in sports:

1. Julian Sayin, Ohio State quarterback

I just called him the best signal caller in the conference. That makes him among the favorites for the big prize.

2. Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State receiver

The first of three Buckeyes on this list. He was on my ballot last year,

3. Dante Moore, Oregon quarterback

Genius move to return to Eugene for another season. The Ducks might finally get their elusive national ttle.

4. Josh Hoover, Indiana quarterback

This might feel a bit lofty for the TCU transfer, but the defending national champions have a loaded team around him, And he is really, really good.

5. Jayden Maiava, Southern California quarterback

Seems like the Trojans are ready to take a big step toward the CFP and he will lead the way.

6. Bryce Underwood, Michigan quarterback

He is uber-talented. The question is how well he adjusts to a new staff.

7. Demond Williams Jr., Washington quarterback

Some think the Huskies have a chance to make the CFP. Me included.

8. Bo Jackson, Ohio State running back

Yes, I have plenty of faith in the Buckeyes. Illinois takes a close look in the big Ten opener.

9. Rocco Becht, Penn State quarterback

Iowa State transfer is the son of former New York Jets tight end Anthony Becht, who was a first-round draft pick.

10. Nico Iamaleava, UCLA quarterback

Tennessee transfer should ease Bob Chesney' transition to the Big Ten.
